PAINT & COATINGS EXHIBITION IN SPAIN

On November 14^th and 15^th, the coatings sector exhibition at Paint & Coatings was held in Barcelona (Spain)On this occasion, Vinavil has been present at the Stockmeier stand along with other raw material suppliers.

During the two days event, our Sales Area Manager Javier Ochoa, accompanied by Jorge Rogel and Vicente Viana (both from Stockmeier Química), has attended to numerous clients and companies in the sector that have passed by the booth.The trade show has also included a Tech focus program about sustainability in the paint and coatings sector and a series of technical presentations in which new ideas and solutions concerning the most important topics in the sector have been presented.

AFTPVA IN FRANCE

On November 30^th, a technical day organized by the AFTPVA and ATIPIC (French and Belgium Associations of Paints, Varnishes, Inks, Glues and Adhesives Technicians) took place in Lille.

Antonietta Schirò, Francesca Chiarinotti and Lucie Boeri represented Vinavil. Antonietta Schirò presented a PPT on ‘How Multifunctional Nano polymer Emulsions Enhance Performance in Coatings Industry”.

Vinavil has developed some products (nanolatexes) that allow a lower environmental impact and better characteristics. The goal of water-based polymers for specific coatings application is to obtain the same properties of the solvent born ones. But if the chemical-physical resistances are nowadays comparable thanks to the higher molecular weight achievable and new crosslinking systems, the penetration into porous substrates remains a big problem for water borne polymer dispersions. This is undoubtedly due to the dimension of the macromolecules, that are nearly measurable in case of solvent dissolved polymers while the standard dispersions have sub-micron size. The awareness that some characteristic phenomena at the nanoscale are behaving differently than the ones at the micron scale led us to explore these new technologies. During the presentation, some products developed for this purpose were briefly described. They are acrylic copolymers nano-latexes, one cationic, with peculiar features. A focus was done on the aspects related to penetration highlighting the performances obtained in many practical applications where the nanometric dimension of the binders are exploited for achieving the same performances of the solvent-based primer and coatings.

VINAVIL PW 195

VINAVIL PW 195 is a polyvinyl acetate-based dispersion that, in combination with VINADUR 500, can be used in the production of plywood panels according to EN 314. The two-component system proposed by Vinavil offers several advantages over traditional urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin-based systems.

The specific formula developed in Vinavil's R&D laboratories is free of added formaldehyde (NAF) and makes it possible to manufacture a panel that complies with the most restrictive European (EN 717) and Californian (CARB) legislations in terms of formaldehyde emissions.

The use of the technical solution proposed by Vinavil, since it is not based on polymers that require a minimum cross-linking temperature (around 120°C), also makes it possible to significantly reduce energy consumption and optimize the production process, with a view to better sustainability.

The technical solution that Vinavil is promoting in the plywood market was developed following the AIM Institute's New Product Blue Printing approach. After an initial exploratory phase of interviews with the world's leading plywood producers, the main needs were highlighted, which formed the starting point for the targeted development of the best technical solution. A market study on plywood including both the market trend to 2030 and the main needs of the user of fit-for-purpose glues, and a presentation of the technical solution including process details, are key tools for the exploration of new markets identified by Vinavil strategic marketing.
